GUDSKUL

We come from a contemporary visual art ecosystem developed from a non-profit work model. Most of the operational support for each of our collectives comes from donor institutions, sponsors, and self-funding from our business units, in addition to voluntary contributions from collective members. When we decided to work together as an Ecosystem, we tried to create a communal barn system where all our resources are gathered and distributed proportionally, according to the needs of each collective. The diverse resources from each collective come in various forms: funds, programs, equipment, or books. These things are collected to be accessed and shared among all collectives.

The Gudskul Ecosystem consists of many elements: artists, curators, art writers, managers, researchers, musicians, directors, architects, chefs, artistic arrangers, designers, fashion designers, street artists, as well as individuals with other expertise. This diversity makes Gudskul a rich and dynamic Ecosystem. Gudskul also consists of collectives with diverse practices and artistic mediums: installation, archives, video, sound, performance, media art, citizen participation, graphic arts, design, education, and more. This diversity also enriches the issues and parties involved in various collaborative projects within it, whether in social, political, cultural, economic, environmental, or educational contexts.

The community is a learning and playhouse for children living in a scavenger village, not far from the Bantar Gebang Waste Processing Site (TPST). Learning sessions are held every Saturday and Sunday.

The community was established in 2013, using the building that was previously the Sanggar Anak Akar, an organization that provided educational facilities and self-development programs for children from marginalized communities.
